Ballet Afsaneh represents the diversity of Persian dance in both the folkloric, celebratory Qashqa'i and an iconic Nouveau Classical dance, that creates an imaginary world filled with magical creatures. The accompanying live music by Zaryab Ensemble is just as diverse, featuring the sorna, a double-reed woodwind; the dahol, a large bass drum; and the santur, a 72-stringed hammered dulcimer.
Also appearing on the same program will be Gamelan Sekar Jaya - Balinese orchestra and dance, Kiyonomoto Ryu USA Classical Japanese dance, Jenny Fong - Chinese soloist, audience members will be invited to get up and dance during special participatory segments in the program.
